Anteneh G. received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular biology from Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined the Zhou lab on December 1st, 2022. His research work focuses on direct cardiac reprogramming and understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate this process. Particular emphasis on CRISPR-based approaches to identify potential transcriptional and epigenetic factors involved during the transdifferentiation of fibroblast cells into induced cardiomyocytes (iCMs).

Bevelyn Emefa Egleh is a graduate student in the GBS CMDB theme who joined the lab in January 2026. Bevelyn is a first-generation PhD student who is originally from Ghana, West Africa. She earned her Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from Kent State University in Ohio. Her research interests focus on direct cardiac reprogramming and regenerative medicine, where she looks forward to addressing existing gaps and contributing to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies. Outside academic pursuits, she enjoys cooking, going to the gym, and spending quality time with loved ones.

Following her undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology and Genetics in Turkey, Doğa Şirin is currently a Master’s student in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Science (Genetics and Genomic Sciences concentration) at UAB. She is currently a member of Dr. Zhou Yang’s research group, where she is developing her master's thesis project and is expected to graduate in 2027.
